Trunk or Treat @ Meridian UPC
Meridian United Presbyterian Church just south of Butler, PA located in Beaver-Butler Presbytery, had their first Trunk or Treat event in their parking lot for the community on Tuesday, Oct 25th. Just over 300 people turned out and of those, approximately 150 were kids! Youth Director, Bryan Hermann, suggested the idea and the congregation embraced it with enthusiasm.
Presbyterian Media Mission assisted in getting the word out through a sponsored announcement voiced by Rev. Steve Franklin which ran with the weather forecasts and a 30 second spot that played over the weekend on the young adult radio station WLER-FM. Meanwhile church members promoted the event at the local elementary school located closeby.
30 folks from the church decorated the trunks of their cars and handed out candy to the kids in the community and also vyed for the best decorated trunk and best costume. All attending were given a ballot and voted after traversing the 'trail' of trunks. The local fire company brought one of their trucks for the kids to explore and a 'bouncy' house was rented by Meridian for working off the sugar highs.
What a great way to witness to the community! This first time event will no doubt be only the beginning of bigger and better Trunks or Treats in the future at Meridian UPC. What fun it is to work with a church that thinks outside of the trunk!
