Welcome, Curtis!

The Synod is delighted to welcome the Rev. Dr. Curtis Jones as Consultant for Racial Ethnic Ministries. He brings extensive experience, expertise, and insight to our Synod. Specifically working with the African American Leadership Teams of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Curtis is an integral and crucial part of our Missional Synod. We are delighted to have him as part of our team.

The Reverend Dr. Curtis A. Jones has been a Minister of Word and Sacrament of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) since 1981.  He is the managing partner of CURESolutions a Georgia-based consulting company specializing in church and community development.  Rev. Jones was formerly the Executive Director of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus (NBPC).  In that capacity, Dr. Jones shared his gifts of leadership, vision and strategic planning in guiding this organization toward dynamic growth, and evangelism.

Rev. Jones holds the Bachelor of Science degree in Political Economy and Labor Relations from Antioch College, the Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary.  Prior to entering the ministry, he was an organizer and negotiator for the National Hospital Workers Union in New Jersey, the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Rev. Jones has served pastorates at St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas and Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Maryland.  At the latter, operating as Chief of Staff and President of the church’s expansive social service corporations with approximately 50 staff persons, Dr. Jones led the establishment of five housing corporations—constructing over 30 million dollars in residential and senior citizen apartment dwellings, significant economic development projects, thriving adult literacy programs and an actively utilized family support center.  Dr. Jones has served on numerous community boards and denominational committees, and has served as chairs of the General Assembly Task Force charged with examining the procurement and employment policies and practices relative to persons of color among the agencies of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
Dr. Jones asserts: “My years as a trade union organizer, pastor cultivated within me a deep appreciation for the dignity of people, a creative passion for justice and a reverence for the reign of God.”   What often appears to be an impasse is frequently an opportunity.  Good leadership seeks to create ownership through partnership and recognizes the self-interest of those around the table.
A native Philadelphian and son of Cleveland and Corrine Jones, Curtis A. Jones resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife Peggy Martin Jones and sons Cleveland and Chadd.
