Richard Hutchison celebrates 75th birthday

Former Pastor Richard Hutchison will be celebrating his 75th birthday on December 3rd and his family has asked that cards and memory vignettes be mailed to his son so a memory book can be created.  "A old memory that you might have about him, good, bad or humorous, and/or any old photographs that you might be willing to send" is what his son, Kent Hutchison, writes. "Memory has been a life-long dilemma for Dad, Pastor Hutch, Dick, Hutch, or Prof. Hutch, and he is currently on medications.  Hopefully, this simple book of memories will assist Hutch as he celebrates his birthday."

Currently, he and his wife, Barb, life in Santa Fe, NM and are still active with church activities, Habitat for Humanity, Senior Olympics, gardening, traveling, and much more.  Please send your remembrance by Thanksgiving (if possible) to:

Mr. and Mrs. Kent A. Hutchison

14 Lighthouse Hill Road

Windsor, CT  06095

The family thanks you very much and appreciates your efforts.

Thoughts from Richard Hutchison as told to his son:

Richard Kenney Hutchison was ordained in Pittsburgh Presbytery in 1956 and was pastor of First Central Presbyterian Church until 1959 when the church was closed and the neighborhood demolished.  After 5 years as Director of Inner City Work (New Castle Presbytery) and organizer of the Church of our Savior (Wilmington, DE), he returned to Washington Presbytery in West Green Parish as the Associate Director and worked with Bob Borland.

He remembers something about being a keynote speaker for the Synod's annual gathering in the early 60's for Town and County Ministry for Joe Grothenhaler on the subject connected with the "Correlation of Urban and Rural Ministry". He says it was a fun occasion with lots of old friends.
Hutch was pastor of Wolf Run Presbyterian Church in Wheeling Presbytery from 1967 until 1979 after working 1.5 years with the 50 Million Fund in Chesapeake Synod.  From 1970-1979 he was a tent minister while a professor at West Liberty State College, WV.
In the 70's when he was Chairman of National Mission in the Wheeling Presbytery and they were facing problems of ministry on both sides of the Ohio River, he instigated secret discussions with similar chairmen of the Muskingum and Stebenville Presbyteries. This eventually led to the organization of the Upper Ohio Valley Presbytery.  The Synod of the Pennsylvania name was then changed to The Synod of the Trinity.

From 1989-1992, Hutch was a Redevelopment Pastor in Richwood, WV and chair of the commissioned lay Pastor program for WV Presbytery.
