| Jennifer McKenna, Second Presbyterian of Carlisle, advocates for cleaner air |
The Rev. Jennfer J. McKenna, associate pastor at Second Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, has rallied her peers to join in the fight for cleaner air. As President of the recently formed Clean Air Board of Central Pennsylvania, McKenna was inspired by more than 100 Carlisle-area doctors who expressed alarm la st August over the midstate air quality. Cumberland County is amoung the top 2 percent of the most polluted counties in the nation. The doctors requested a halt in truck-related development throughout the county. While the group is not opposed to the trucking industry, they do want community leaders to consider air quality when making future land-use decisions.
Rev. Jennifer McKenna feels that residents might not realize that soot on their homes or doctor visits for bronchial problems could be linked to particulate pollution. McKenna feels that churches are obliged "to advocate for those who are most vulnerable" to the effects of diesel fuel emissions. To read details, click on Carlisle Presbytery's web site.
