On Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, Elder Warren McNeill, moderator of the Philadelphia Presbytery, joined

Mayor-elect, Michael Nutter, religious leaders and others in a prayer service and rededication to peace and non-violence prior to his inauguration.

Hosted by the Religious Leaders Council of Greater Philadelphia, the interfaith inaugural service included Jewish, Muslim, and Christian sacred scripture readings, the recitation of the pledge in both Spanish and English, and musical selections.  The complete program is available by clicking here.

The service indicated that among "a number of different faiths, there may be different views and different opinions. But I think, with a commitment to a higher power and a higher being, that you can bring people together under any set of circumstances and especially on this issue of violence and having peace in Philadelphia," Nutter said.

The pledge, A Call from People of Faith to Stop Violence, and lead by Mayor-elect Nutter, iis an initiative of the Council to unite religious leaders to build relationships of mutual support, to offer a moral and spiritual voice, and to take action on issues of critical concern in their region.

The pledge is applicable to all who hunger for peace in their lives and their communities.
