College Hill

celebrates 100 years

1906 - 2006

College Hill Presbyterian Church, Beaver Falls, PA, in the Presbytery of Beaver-Butler, is celebrating its 100th anniversary on October 21 and 22, 2006.  The actual date of the church‘s anniversary is in December.

The College Hill Presbyterian Church was established in 1906 as a result of the faith and endeavor of Rev. Dr. William Parsons, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls and some of the earnest and enterprising members of his congregation.  In September 1906, a small group of men and women met to lay

definite plans for putting it into effect.  The petition was granted and on December 18, 1906, the organization was effected in the Reformed Presbyterian Church on 4th Avenue in Beaver Falls.  A committee representing the Presbytery of Shenango was in charge with Rev. Henry Potter of the Darlington Church as Chairman.  In 1908 the church building was constructed.  There have been renovations and additions through the years, and the congregation continues to worship in the original building.

Many faithful pastors have led the congregation since its beginning.  Three of the most notable were the Rev. Boice R. Atwell who retired in 1961 after thirty-one years of ministry, the Rev. Jim Donnell who served the church ten years, and the Rev. Keith Hornung who served from 1987 through 1998.

The congregation seeks to live out this mission statement:

By the grace of God and through the power of the Holy Spirit the College Hill Presbyterian Church will grow in knowledge and maturity in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We will share the Gospel and the gifts God has given us in and beyond the College Hill community.  We covenant to worship God with our whole selves, love one another, equip the saints, and serve the world.
