PHEWA
Seeks Nomination for 2005 Biennial Social Justice Ministry
Award
The
Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA),
National Ministries Division, is seeking nominations for
the John Park Lee Award to be presented at their January
2005 Biennial Conference in Tucson, Arizona.
The
John Park Lee Award has been presented at each PHEWA Biennial
Conference since 1969 to recognize and perpetuate the qualities
of concern, sensitivity and involvement singularly exemplified
in John Park Lee, who helped establish Presbyterian health
and welfare ministries that came together in the founding
of the National Presbyterian Health and Welfare Association
(now PHEWA) in 1956.
Lee
graduated from Princeton University and in subsequent years
served as the administrator of a clinic for alcoholics,
a children's medical center, as Director, Division of Welfare
Agencies of the Board of Pensions, as well as held positions
in public relations, journalism and in government service.
In 1963, Whitworth College conferred on John Park Lee the
honorary degree of Doctor of Letters in recognition of his
meritorious contributions to the church and society.
He was a leader in sensitizing the church to its opportunities
for mission, and he pressed agency staff toward exceptional
quality.
Please
submit nominations for persons whose passion and life reflect
the qualities of John Park Lee in whose honor and memory
this award is given. A full description of this award
and a nomination form can be found at www.pcusa.org/phewa/news
or by calling 1-888-728-7228 x 8100. Nominations
must be received by May 1, 2004.
