Laying Cement

Dear Mission Travel Grant Committee:

Fifteen of us departed on June 20th for a ten day adventure that changed us in too many ways to put into a letter.  However, we know that spirits were renewed, hearts were changed and relationships with our Lord Jesus Christ deepened.  Our experiences can best be told by an online journal that was kept throughout our journey. It can be read in its entirety at Whitehall Presbyterian's web site by clicking on the Teens Tab, Mission Trip 2005, Bahamas. I have included two excerpts:

Day two was a scorcher!  The heat is incredibly intense. Our projects are progressing nicely.  The building has been primed and is 99% ready for painting.  Dustin and his crew are working hard on kitchen cabinets.  The basketball court crew started off a bit slow while we put together a plan, but made nice progress by the end of the day.  I would say most of us are drinking about 5 liters of water during each work day, it's amazing how fast we sweat water out...makes for a very interesting smelling dinner each night.  Lastly the mosquito's have been eating us ALIVE!  Each evening around dusk they all come out for their nightly feeding and feast on us....I've never had so many bites in my entire life!  Good news is they are harmless and don't carry any disease here.  We miss you all and thank you for your continued prayers!

6/18/05 11:30 pm Today was our last day of work...we didn't get as much accomplished as we would have liked, due to some unexpected and rare thunder storms. However, it was nice getting rained one!  There is nothing more refreshing than a hard rain on a hot, humid day.  Dustin and the cabinet crew finished the cabinets and did a beautiful job I might add.  The paint crew completed the interior and came very close to finishing the exterior.  Finally, the cement crew was challenged with pouring cement in the rain.  Needless to say it slowed us down a bit.  All in all I'm very pleased and proud of the hard work everyone put forth this week.  God blessed us with a truly wonderful team

I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for the generous travel grant that was awarded to the Youth of Whitehall Presbyterian the the Synod of the Trinity.
