PMM
(Presbyterian Media Mission) Board Member Beth Merry and
her family are in Malawi, Africa, to spend a year in mission
there. Beth will be teaching media literacy in this
developing nation. It is the fourth poorest country
in the world but satellite dishes are popping up on houses
all over.
"This
will be a challenge and an interesting opportunity,"
says Merry, "because Malawians are just beginning to
see the impact that media has on culture. Together we can
try to critically analyze the situation."
She
will be teaching at the Zomba Theological College and the
University of Malawi . The PMM Board of Directors at their
spring board meeting allocated funding to help support this
unique mission endeavor. Her husband, The Rev. Dr. Dan Merry,
will be a Missionary from Pittsburgh Presbytery who will
further the Partnership with the Synod of Blantyre (CCAP)
by working closely with church leaders and pastors.
Heather and Brooke Merry, their teenaged daughters, will
be attending an international school while living in Malawi.
Our
prayers and support go with them. Beth is an elder
at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville, PA, one of
a number of congregations who support the mission work of
PMM!
Your support of the Tapestry of Hope Funding Campaign will
help to make other opportunities such as this available
to more volunteer advocates.
