John P. Bortner 1934 - 2008

The Synod of the Trinity expresses sadness on receiving the news of the death of the Rev. John P. Bortner on April 20, 2008.  A dedicated servant of God, John served the Synod of the Trinity as Vice Moderator in 1986 and as a member of the Permanent Judicial Commission from 2000-2005.  Rev. Bortner was an active reserve member of the Synod's Permanent Judicial Commission from 2005 through 2007.  In addition, John held numerous positions within Shenango Presbytery.  Serving as pastor at Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City for more than 30 years, Rev. Bortner was named pastor emeritus on his retirement in 1999.  Rev. Bornter served as interim pastor at Bessemer Presbyterian Church from 2000 to 2003, and most recently was stated supply pastor at Mount Hermon Presbyterian Church since 2003.
