Summer 2005 Conference |

Elizabethtown College
Elizabethtown, PA |

Throughout the second meeting of the 288th year of the Synod of the Trinity, Commissioners and many Synod friends enjoyed great Bible teaching, got involved in challenging Mission projects, participated in interesting seminars, and praised God through wonderful worship!
|
| Following the Summer Conference theme of “Mission: Feast, Festival, and Future,” the weeklong adventure allowed participants to consider the ways we have been called to do Mission, how we celebrate our involvement in that calling, and how we can joyfully reach out to others – now and in the future, as we share insights we gain from being involved in Mission, and allowing all these experiences to influence us in the living out of a vital faith in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. |

Bible Study was led by the Rev. Dr. Charles (Buz) Myers, Chair of the Department of Religion at Gettysburg College. He also led worship along with Commissioner and Synod Vice Moderator Ed Gray (Clergy, Washington) and Mr. Warren Cooper of Philadelphia. Beautiful jazz musical presentations filled our worship time in Leffler Chapel on the campus of Elizabethtown College. |

In addition to the hands-on Mission work and informative seminars, one afternoon was spent with Mary Ellen Lawson and Jenny Stoner who are members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Theological Task Force on Peace, Unity, and Purity. They described the process they have been using to deal with the serious issues the denomination has asked them to address. |

Leading the business meeting is Moderator Jean Kennedy |
|
At the business meeting, Moderator Jean Kennedy (Elder, Pittsburgh),
led Commissioners through the decision-making process on a wide variety of proposals. Changes were made to the Synod’s Standing Rules regarding the Finance and Budget Committee, as well as the way motions are brought to the Commissioners when there are financial implications in those motions. Commissioners approved working with Presbytery Cooperative Committees and Synod Covenant Partners as creative ways to respond to needs and concerns of a variety of persons within the Synod. Also approved was a covenant agreement with the West Virginia Ministry of Advocacy and Workcamps. Heartfelt thanks were extended to Mary Speedy (Elder, Carlisle) who chaired the Planning Team for the Summer Conference Meeting – a job well done. |
The Fall Meeting will be held October 27-28 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. |
