My lead up theory is based on my perception from the various films that everyone but Poirot is a caricature (which is one thing I really didn't like about the 1974 version--to me, it was a bunch of actors chewing the scenery without convincing me at all they were anything but actors.) She has the unbelievable plots that rely on billions of coincidences; rational plots that actually rest on forensics; suspense plots that involve international politics (I don't care for these).I consider Murder on the Orient Express to be more of a showcase for different personalities--I'm rather a fan of Christie's ability to rely on types rather than supposedly "rounded" characters to convey personality. With Christie, it's probably partly nostalgia and mostly because I care more about the interactions than the mystery itself--kind of the same reason it doesn't bother me that Lewis didn't invent a language for Narnia: I don't expect Christie to meet any mystery standard but her own.). The story made no sense. Watched this extravagant production last night and wept! What are the Poirot writer's up to? I encourage you to know this because without this certainty we should all of us be mad. However, the changes I saw in this latest version of “APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH” struck me as either unnecessary or just simply a case of bad screen writing. Poirot investigates but, due to the seemingly universal dislike for the woman, the suspects are many. Out of the first set, only one script so far has changed the murderer (a tendency of the BBC's non-Joan-Hickson Miss Marples that I loathe).

The novel was about petty tyranny and traumas (subtly) inflicted on children. I read this book years ago, but I’ve pretty much forgotten how the story plays out, so I was able to enjoy this film “as is.” Yes, it was full of a cast of crazy characters – but now I’m very curious to re-read the novel and compare the two. (Yes, I am fallible. Zoe Boyle….. Jinny Boynton I’m not sure I like this season’s shows either. I did not like the end or Mum and Dad thing. And while Lady Westholme (Elizabeth McGovern) had much to lose, her role in this plot has changed it beyond recognition. Mrs Boynton was a cruel women who turned to child abuse - how, why nothing was reasonably explained? If you would like to share a new site, or point out an error, please email me.
Mark Gatiss….. Leonard Boynton The one thing I can't get used to is the tone. The second question I asked myself was did I prefer the book or the adaptation? Filming took place in Israel. This version tries to cram a much more complicated plot and more characters (notably Lord Boynton, someone superfluous to requirements if ever there was one) into a little over an hour of screen time.
The movie hardly resembled the book at all. I'll own up to my mistakes and will make the corrections with a polite smile on my face.) This site is not devoted to the genre of horror but rather to the practices of the votary. Unless I’m terrible misinformed, Ms. Christie was long dead when these films were made. Write me at. The arrogance and incompetence of those screen writers who dare maim the work of Agatha Christie is staggering. Appointment with Death (2008) David Suchet: Hercule Poirot. is even more unfaithful than that. Rosaries featured in two of the three, and are totally unfaithful to the originals. A lot of changes were made from the way the books were written, and not for the better. Appointment with Death is the last new Hercule Poirot mystery to be shown on PBS for Season X. David Suchet and a sterling ensemble cast reenacted Agatha Christie’s tale in Syria – or did they? And, the two murders' suicide at the end wasn't authentic as well. Instead of Miss Marple and Poirot, the producers use (in the first set) the urbane Superintendent Larosière and the sweeter-than-pie Inspector Lampion. Just give this awkward mess of a film a miss. I totally concur with the reviewer who wondered why Poirot has suddenly found religion. Angela Pleasence….. Nanny There's a lot to be said for the understated and unsaid.
