Meg Steele, a ruling elder from Washington Presbytery, and Susan Nesti, a ruling elder from the Presbytery of Redstone, are serving as the co-moderators for the Synod of the Trinity in 2025. Get to know Meg and Susan through several questions that were asked of them.

MARGARET “MEG” STEELE

  1. Family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets): My husband Harry and I have been married 45 years. I have two grown children and one grandchild. No pets, although I have two grand-dogs!
  2. In what capacity do you serve (church name and leadership position, presbytery board, synod committee, etc.)? I have been a member of Faith U.P. Church for over 40 years. I have served as a deacon, elder and church treasurer. I currently serve as clerk of session. I have served Washington Presbytery as moderator, vice-moderator, Synod representative and on the Nominating Team.
  3. In what other capacity have you served in the past (former churches, committees, etc.)? In the distant past I have served as a youth group leader, gone on mission trips and taught Sunday School.
  4. When you’re not serving your church, what can you be found doing? I am a volunteer at The Washington Hospital Gift Shop where I spend many hours. I enjoy spending time with my family. My favorite solo activity is reading.
  5. Describe yourself in one word: Busy.
  6. What was your childhood dream job? Teacher
  7. What steered you into this ministry field? I am an organized person and happy to share those skills. I enjoy running meetings and making sure that things go smoothly and in proper order.
  8. What goals do you have while serving as co-moderator? My hope is that I can keep the things I am responsible for in good order and running well.
  9. Why do you feel God has called you into this position of co-moderator? I felt that this was something that I could do well and it would give me an opportunity to serve in a way I never had before.

SUSAN C. NESTI

  1. Family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets): A husband, my bodyguard, Rick. Three beautiful daughters, two who live in Pennsylvania and one’s in Oklahoma. Due to a blended family, Rick and I are blessed with seven grandchildren plus one special great-niece. Three of my grandchildren share the same birthday. No pets, for we travel to much.
  2. In what capacity do you serve (church name and leadership position, presbytery board, synod committee, etc.)? I am a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon, PA, currently serving as an elder and also serve on the Christian Education Committee. I’m active in Presbyterian Women at the local, presbytery and Synod levels. Also serve on the Synod’s Governing Commission and CoRN (Committee Representation and Nomination) committee.
  3. In what other capacity have you served in the past (former churches, committees, etc.)? I served as an elder and deacon at Redstone PC and as elder for Fort Burd PC. I’m active in the Christian Education committees at both churches. I’ve attended Big Tent and several PW church-wide conferences.
  4. When you’re not serving your church, what can you be found doing? Crocheting, sewing, knitting or quilting are my greatest hobbies.
  5. Describe yourself in one word: Hospitality.
  6. What was your childhood dream job? Personal secretary to a CEO.
  7. What steered you into this ministry field? My upbringing in Oklahoma and the love for children.
  8. What goals do you have while serving as co-moderator? To be mindful of my duties and of other’s opinions.
  9. Why do you feel God has called you into this position of co-moderator? I am anxious but I must rely on the fact that this is the plan that God has for me and he will see me through it.
  10. Any closing remarks? I am very pleased that the Synod Search Committee gave thought to the fact that I have the capabilities to serve as a co-moderator, and with that thought in mind, let the festivities begin.
