A Synod of the Trinity Network Grant for $850 was awarded to First Presbyterian Church of Masontown, PA, in June of 2016 to purchase technology equipment to help alert the community of upcoming events. What follows is a brief description of the ministry and what was purchased written by Lourie Stewart, the coordinator of Grant Acquisition at First Church of Masontown.
We saw a need to get more communication out to the community about events within our church and the churches of the Klondike Clergy, who are members of the greater Masontown community. We do provide a community dinner free of charge to all members of the community twice a month.
At this dinner we serve on average 115 dinners in house and 75 take-outs. People in attendance are part of our senior population, low income and homeless community as well as anyone who walks through the door. With such a diverse group, we need to reach; the idea of projecting announcements came to mind.
It was a wonderful idea! Using a simple format on PowerPoint, local events within and around our community are projected onto the large screen in back of the dining area. Nothing but positive comments were received. Many did not know of the activities offered to them.
Future plans in the works for the projector/computer projection include:
- Bible Study
- Children’s programming
- Technology integration in collaboration with service organizations providing services to our community
We recognize we could not have achieved this program without the support of the Synod of the Trinity and are completely indebted to them for such support. We are working hard to promote God’s love and devotion to everyone, and we strive to show this in our everyday support of the community of Masontown.
